Reiki is a natural, holistic healing energy that is guided by intention. The practice of Reiki has ancient roots and was rediscovered in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist named Mikao Usui.
Reiki means “Universal Life Energy”, the energy that flows through all living things and supports our overall wellbeing. It works gently to help balance the body, mind, emotions and spirit, and may also support personal and spiritual growth.
During a Reiki session, the recipient remains fully clothed and lies down in a peaceful, comfortable environment. The practitioner gently places their hands either on or just above the body. The recipient naturally draws in the energy they need, allowing it to be used in the most appropriate way.
Reiki may be experienced as warmth, coolness, mild tingling, a gentle flow of energy, other subtle sensations, or sometimes no physical sensation at all. It is deeply relaxing and can have a calming, soothing effect.
After a session, it is helpful to rest for a while, drink plenty of water, and listen to your body’s needs. The benefits of Reiki may continue for several days after treatment. The number and frequency of sessions will depend on each person’s individual needs, although an initial course of regular treatments may be especially beneficial.
Reiki can help promote deep relaxation, inner calm and a peaceful sense of wellbeing. It may also support positive lifestyle choices and encourage a greater sense of balance and harmony, making it easier to cope with everyday challenges.
Reiki is gentle and safe for people of all ages, including newborn babies, older people, those who are frail, and people with many medical conditions. It can also be used to support animals, plants, food, water and the energy within a room. Reiki can also be sent distantly to recipients who are not physically present.
